Create an eBook: a Work at Home Career

Writing an eBook can be a great work from home career. And if you have a passion for a topic or the desire to share information, it will be a rewarding adventure.

And as with any career, creating an eBook can either lead to a booming income within a couple of months or a constant struggle until you give up in despair.

Here’s a process I recommend to get an eBook created and out in the public for others to read and enjoy.

Get Known:

The challenge for new eBook authors is to convince buyers that you can actually write. And that your eBook will offer new fresh content that people will want to read.

Steps to get known as an eBook writer

1. Select a topic for an eBook. When choosing a topic it helps to select an area you know. The topic should also be popular. “How to” topics are always an area that people look for information.

You can use Google to check for topics that are popular. Amazon is also another place to check to see what people are buying.

2. There are many sites that will help you with the steps you need to assemble an eBook. There are also places you can hire that will assemble the book for you. Once you have it put into a PDF form and it has been proofed for grammar and spelling, you can offer it for sale.

3. Offer the book with all rights: this means that someone else (the purchaser) will put their name on it as the author. By doing this, the eBook will be circulated quickly and you will gain a reputation for being an eBook author.

Selling an eBook will not only give you money you can invest in promoting your new career, it will also build your confidence.

Create a Website to Promote Your eBook

Create a small website. Often this site is a sales page. Other times it may be part of a blog or a 2 or 3 page website. Describe your eBook in as great of detail as you can.

Don’t skimp on the contents of the eBook site. Content is what gets you traffic from search engines, and traffic gets you buyers. If you have testimonials from people who have read the eBook and liked it, that will help.

Promote Your Site and eBook services

The final step is to promote your site. There are endless ways to market your eBook writing services. Article marketing, forum marketing, advertising on online classifieds sites, and advertising on other websites are ideas to get you started.

Your first eBook will be the most challenging as you learn what needs to be done and in what order. You will find you usually have several projects going on at one time.

Day Four, Create an ebook in 5 days

It’s day four of create an eBook in five days. The schedule I am following today has how to write your articles. I have had my articles stuck in a file folder for months so I really don’t have new writing for the eBook today.

But I do still have proofing changes to make and then to reorganize the files to get them ready to make a PDF.  I am using open office to make my PDF, but there are several other good PDF makers online. One is Adobe Reader and the other is pdf995. Adobe is a paid program and pdf995 has a free version and a paid version program.

There are also many other programs out there; some good other not so reliable, but I have no personal experience with them.

So today I proofed and changed articles and set up more steps for selling my Book project when it’s done.

Create an eBook in Five Days?

Is it possible to Create an eBook in Five Days?

Under the right conditions, yes, I believe it is.

But you have to set aside time, set firm goals and either have ready-made information put together or your own unique articles.  These articles need to be proofed as fast as possible if you have a five-day eBook goal.

And after saying this is possible, I will also say, don’t push yourself too hard. It may make you feel like giving in. So what if it takes 10 or 15 days? Maybe everything will fall together and it will take two days. And once you have assembled an eBook the next eBook will be easier to create.

So, so fun and giggles, I am going to try creating an eBook in five days. (Since I am located in 20-degree weather and my car is snowed in this goal will be easier to reach… I hope)

If you have been following my eBook journal you will have read I have an eBook project, which is a series of eBooks, an eCourse and reports.  With all the work I have put into the project so far I have not touched the “Backyard Oasis Projects” section. I have rounded up 20 of my own articles and they are sitting in a file to be looked at, reworked and then proofed by some one else. It’s always important to have someone look at your work. Even with spell check it’s hard to see your own typos.

Day One. Ebook Creation in five days

Pick your topic or niche. You may want to find a quiet room, relax and just start writing down ideas. Once you have a few good ideas decide why you are creating the book. If it’s for friends or personal use, researching keywords will not be as important.  If it’s for sale you need to know if your keywords work for you topic and if your niche is popular enough for sales.

The free tools Market Samurai and Google keyword tool will help you with this. Market Samurai you will need to sign up to use.

My overall project and larger eBook “Backyard Oasis Projects” did well in research and the keywords related to my website, Backyard Oasis.

I also have several other eBooks that are in this project and they are all popular searches in Backyard Projects. This will give me the opportunity to create backlinks and make my keywords stronger and the chances my eBooks will be found easier.

This took me about 2 hours.

Knowing I will promote the eBook for sale I am registering a site to have a sales page. Again, my keywords were researched and my site name was registered in minutes through Name Cheap. Hosting for my sales page is on Host Gator. These are the two sites I use for my website businesses. I totally trust them.

The rest of today I plan to rework my articles and get them sent out for proofing. This hopefully will only take two hours for reworking and looking over the articles. The proofing will depend.

But, I have a good start on my eBook and can concentrate on the next steps I need to take.

I will also suggest Blogging Beginners (It has a free version to use) for any help you need with websites, hosting and just other technical issues. Wizzer also has a guide to creating an eBook on his site, Wizzer Says as a free download. This eBook is what really pushed me to get started with my project.

Resources used today

Market Samuri – for keyword and niche research (sign up required)
Google keyword tool – for keyword research
Backyard Oasis – my one  gardening site  that I used it for finding my most searched for keywords
Blogging Beginners – support and using videos for help
*Name Cheap – Domain hosting for my sales page
*Host Gator – Hosting for my sales page.

The last two resources are not necessary if you creating your eBook for friends, family or personal use.

Create an eBook: What would your eBook be?

If you were to create an eBook of your own, what would it be for or about?

Sometimes you need paper

They say that eBooks will be the wave of the future. That with skyrocketing graphic and publishing costs the hard cover book will be replaced with eBooks.

I know that newspapers have had difficulties lately with subscriptions and cost of production and delivery. You also have to take into account the use of trees and landfills that are filled with newsprint.

And with the new programs available on the web I believe that the eBook will greatly influence our future.

So, if you were to create an eBook what would it be about?

Here are several ideas that I think would be fun projects.

  • A photo journal history of family. What a great way to share history and images with the family near and far.
  • An eBook put together to promote you college training. If you were in graphic, photography, a writer or many other career fields this would make an impressive lead in to an interview.
  • A journal of life and local history
  • A how to book on your favorite hobby or interest

As you see the possibilities are endless.

My steps in creating an eBook today.

  1. The start of promoting the eBook.
  2. Finishing my file on Backyard Oasis Project so that I can start to assemble the book.
  3. Proofing… it seems a never-ending step at this moment.
  4. I started to select images for the eBook covers. I still need more images to relate to the content.

EBook Creation: PLR’s and MRR’s

When you create an eBook one of the more important beginning steps is to decide where your information is coming from. There are people who will research and write each article and there are others who will use Private Label Right (PLR’s) articles.

If you chose PRL’s its best to add more of your own information and make the articles personal. Or as many say, the article should be in your own voice. If you don’t have original articles the eBook may almost be a copy of someone else’s work and who wants to read old information?

I have used PLR’s as a starting point and usually get two or three finished articles from an original article. By time I am done the article is mine – I just had an idea to get me going.

PLR’s can be found online and through private memberships. I have used information from Blogging Beginners, Mike Steup Daily articles and PLRwholesaler. You can also use or find articles on line or create articles from eHow.  And don’t forget google.

Just make sure you do not copy others work and break any copyright rules when using any information online or from an article or book.

After you have your information rounded up and articles ready, it’s time to assemble the ebook.

Plans for setting up an eBook.

Before you get into the technical steps your final decision is: will the eBook be a Private Label Rights eBook where people can change the information you wrote or will it be a Master Reseller’s Rights eBook?

Master Reseller Rights (MRR) means that when someone purchases the eBook they can sell it, but they can make no changes to the content. Bothe MRR eBooks and PLR eBook come with a reseller agreement and terms are listed for their use. And if you have no plans to sell the eBook these agreements are not important to you.

The benefit of a Master resellers right book is that the information cannot be changed and you can add hyperlinks that lead to a website business or item for sale.

My steps in Creating an eBook today were:

  • Get some of my eBook material out to be proofed today and get the rest out tomorrow.
  • Start looking up graphics for my eBook project
  • Pull up sales page information I have stored in my folder and start making the final decisions. (The sales page is another project within itself that needs proper attention.)
